Updated Bleachers at Community Dreams
Where are the bleachers at Community Dreams fields?
If you have been by Community Dreams either the baseball field or the track and football field, you have probably noticed the bleachers are gone or not sitting in the normal position. This project has been in the works for the last few years.
The district liability insurance company, EMC, makes periodic safety inspections. One of the concerns were our bleachers at our outdoor venues. The architects which we have also been working with for building improvements also recommended updating our set-up.
Existing bleachers, telescopic seating, and grandstands are subject to building codes:

These interests help to assure the safety of the public seated on or moving up and down the levels of bleachers. A major portion of bleacher-associated injuries result from a person falling from or through bleachers onto the surface below. To help limit these hazards, open spaces beneath footboards and seatboards can be limited to safe amounts, and railings should meet the specifications for clearance and tolerance in accordance with ICC 300-2017.
ADAAG 2010 provides standards as required by law and by building code for access for peoples with disabilities including provisional requirements for aisles, handrails, ramp access, wheelchair spaces/companion seats, guard rails, access to public way, clear walkway width, and etc.
Review of current bleachers at Edgewood-Colesburg CSD football field finds that the bleachers do not meet all of the requirements of the ICC-300-2017, NFPA 102-2016, and/or ADAAG 2010.
The bleachers purchased for the baseball field are a used set which saved the district over $20,000. Funding provided by the voter-approved Physical Plant and Equipment Levy (PPEL) made the purchase possible. Thank you for the support of the Edgewood-Colesburg School District.
