Exciting Things Happening in Ed-Co FBLA

An exciting year of FBLA has is well underway at Ed-Co. Each year, members of FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America) get the opportunity to participate in numerous conferences, community service projects, and chapter bonding activities. These events help students network and develop leadership skills. Here is a brief recap of what has happened in Ed-Co FBLA so far this school year:

In September, a cook out took place at Backbone State Park as a way to encourage new membership. Students enjoyed a meal, beach volleyball, and a hike through nature. At the beginning of October, many students attended the State Fall Leadership Conference in Des Moines. At the conference students attending workshops held by business leaders and state officers. They concluded the conference with a tour of the state capital and the Hy-Vee Technology Center. This year Ed-Co has the honor of having two of its students on the state officer team. Kirstyn Payne is the Region 1 Vice President and Alex Schmitz is the State President. Both of them have done a great job fulfilling their duties to Iowa FBLA.

In late October, FBLA hosted a Halloween dance for the elementary students. It was very well attended and the kids had fun. On Halloween night students went trick-or-treating for canned goods in Edgewood, Colesburg, and Greeley. All of the collected items were donated to the local food pantries. In early November, several FBLA members helped at the annual Greeley Steak Dinner. They were a great help to the Greeley Fire Department by taking orders and busing tables. Also in November, a group of FBLA members went to the National Fall Leadership Conference held in Denver, Colorado. At the conference, they attended workshops and visited local attractions. It has been a busy year so far! Here are some of the upcoming events happening in Ed-Co FBLA:

On January 18th, Ed-Co will be hosting a Regional Leadership Conference for the schools of Iowa FBLA Region 1. At this conference members will participate in competitive events and presentations. Only the top finishers in this event will be able to compete at the State Leadership Conference in March. Another event being planned is to raise money for the March of Dimes. This organization is dedicated to supporting mother and babies. More information will be sent out as the event approaches. Overall, Ed-Co FBLA members have been hard at work and will continue to stay busy throughout the year!
